reviews
“Finding wine from this vineyard site at this price is unheard of and reason enough to jump on this bottling. It also happens to taste great—a combination of melon and preserved lemon flavor, with spicy acidity and a lift of grapefruit peel and wet stone that keeps it exotic.” – Wine Enthusiast | Virginie Boone | August 2017 | 91 pts
“The 2015 Sauvignon Blanc Ritchie Vineyard offers lovely density and richness. Here, too, the wine offers plenty of depth and texture. The style favors more fruit and richness over the greener, grassier characteristics that are found in Sauvignon Blanc.” – vinous | Antionio Galloni | March 2017 | 90 pts
“This Sauvignon Blanc comes from 35 year-old vines growing in sandy Goldridge Loam over volcanic rock in the renowned Ritchie Vineyard. The richness and minerality of this site are honed through whole-cluster pressing and native yeast fermentation in concrete egg-shaped fermenters. Aged for eight months, sur lies.” – David Ramey
palate
Grapefruit oil and lime zest balance bold mineral character.
vintage notes
Winter 2015 was the warmest on record, leading to early budbreak. But, cooler, wetter weather in the Spring months slowed development, leading to an extended bloom period. The resulting uneven fruit set meant a smaller crop and smaller berries with good concentration of flavors. Weather throughout the Summer growing season was consistently warm, promoting even ripening and an early harvest.
winemaking
Whole cluster pressed, native yeast, non-malolactic fermentation and sur lies aged in 66% concrete egg and 34% neutral oak for eight months; bottled unfiltered.
